The first round of the British National ski racing championships took place at Lyme Regis on the 13th of May. Teams from across the country descended on the Dorset resort for what was to be a challenging weekend of racing. Racing at national level consists of a 50 minute race for Formulas 1,2 and 3 and a 35 minute race for seniors, ladies and juniors.
In the main race Cliff Featherstone made a return to Formula 2 behind the Schiada of Alfredo Alongi with Steve Graham observing. Cliff has been very successful in this formula in the past. The race began with fairly smooth conditions which worsened over the duration of the race. The team gradually pulled up through the field over the race to finish 7th in formula 2.
In the support race Geoff Watson skied in the senior category. The conditions worsened as the race went on with white tops appearing on the waves. The team finished 5th in the seniors having suffered two falls during the race. The schiada also suffered from the pounding waves with a broken trim tab!
