Sunderland airshow trip 2016

The annual Power & Ski trip to the air show took place on Saturday 23rd July.

An early tide necessitated launching no later that 10:30 for the larger boats do it was an early start.
The weather conditions were good with calm seas. A handful of boats gathered for the trip With a few jetskis. Jim Matthews launched earlier to make a head start as he was picking the family up at Sunderland.

Neil, Glenys and Geoff were joined by Dave in his boat for a group waterski to Sunderland. Both set off from in front of the old HYC and skied the 17 miles up to Sunderland making a turn round HMS Bulwark before stopping. The outward leg was a sedentary 34 minutes. The group were also met by James Scott in his renovated Phantom 20. Keith and Sean followed on their jet skis later.
At 12 the group headed into The harbour and moored up at SYC. The club kindly offered a tender to get people ashore. The group enjoyed a leisurely lunch at SYC and then viewed the air show from the balcony at 1pm.

The display was as usual of high standard with a wide range of aircraft of varying vintages. Conspicuous in its absence was the BBMF lancaster.
The red arrows provided the usual skilled display and the show was rounded off with the euro fighter.

The final effort of the day was the return ski in much choppier waters totalling about 35 miles for the day.

Many thanks to SYC for their usual very kind hospitality.
