The Frostbite event from December 2020 was finally run on 16th   October 2021, the pandemic and lockdown having postponed the race   from last year. The 2021 event in December will mark the 50th   anniversary, the first race having run in 1971.

The conditions on the day for the event were mild but there was a   definite cooler feel to the weather than of late. The water temperature   was still reasonably good too, so there was enthusiasm for some   recreational skiing after the heats.

Neil was the designated driver for the day over the 8 laps for each run.   The first skier to go over the 8 laps was Geoff who recorded a total time   of 5 mins 53 for the 5km. Dave went next and completed 4 laps before   lack of fuel caused the run to be aborted. After refuelling Dave started   again with some fast initial laps before a blistering 7th lap. His final   time was 5 mins16. Simon was the last to go and put in some consistent   laps to clinch 2nd place by 2 seconds with 5 mins 51.

It was good to also have some new members along on the day to see what the event was all about. Gerry who was a tournament skier, having also done some racing in the GLSE series, came to have a ski. Richard helped with the timekeeping and thanks to he and Paul for running the stopwatch and flags.

The next outing for racing will be the Frostbite 50th event on 5th December 2021.
