Grass roots waterski racing event 3

Lady Mallory and crew observing the skiing in the basin as they wait to lock in.

The last grass roots event took place on the 8th September. There was another decent turnout of skiers taking part with some good times set over the courses. This time the weather was much more pleasant than the last two events.

Geoff on his 8 laps.
Simon was the first skier to go in the M40 class over 8 laps. Despite putting in a few good laps he had to stop to give his aching back a quick rest. His overall time was 07:05. Dave was next skier in the M50 class and covered his 8 laps in a speedy 05.11. He claimed fastest lap also in 36 seconds. New skier Jayne was next up in the ladies W40 event, back again for more racing! Over 4 laps she improved on her last time by some minutes completing 4 laps in 4:40. Geoff was next over 8 laps in the M40 and completed the distance in 05:44. Andrew had a short run next having not skied for some time and looked like he'd only been out the day before.

Jayne about to start

Paul was unable to ski this time due to illness, so there was no other challenge for the M50 class. There were no other skiers in the older age classes.
Overall the three events have gone well and should do well with a few more skiers taking part next year. There is plenty of room for more entries and hopefully more from the region will take part.  Once participants have the hang of taking part in these basic events they will then be able to progress on to more mainstream racing where teams are competing directly against each other on the water.

Simon on his 8 laps.
